Cripps Pemberton Greenish advise on the launch of Harrow School Online
Leading law firm Cripps Pemberton Greenish has advised Harrow School Enterprises Ltd (the commercial arm of Harrow School) on the launch of a new online school, “Harrow School Online”*.
The School will open from September 2020 and is expected to attract international students from across the world, particularly in markets such as China, Hong Kong, Nigeria, Russia and UAE.
The technology underpinning the system, provided by Pearson, is already used by more than 75,000 virtual school students around the world. Applied to Harrow School Online, it will allow students to take part in one-to-one academic tutorials, live online lessons and regular coaching sessions. With an aim to mirror Harrow’s ethos as much as possible, students will also have the opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities including a chess club and a student newspaper.
The Cripps Pemberton Greenish team, led by corporate partner Andrew Millett, assisted Harrow in the contract negotiations with Pearson. Members of the team included those with specialities in the education/charity, IP and technology sectors.
Andrew said: “We are extremely proud to have worked with Harrow on this deal. Online schools are a fairly new feature of the education sector and it is exciting to see this world famous school, with a reputation for excellence, embracing online provision. We are delighted to have played a part and are looking forward to seeing it thrive”.
Heather Rhodes, Principal for Harrow Online School commented: “We live in a rapidly changing world, and education must too adapt to the new challenges this presents, and reflect young people’s lifestyles and aspirations. It’s a privilege to be at the forefront of this new chapter of education. Our thanks go to Andrew and the Cripps Pemberton Greenish team for their expertise and assistance on this project.”
