Professional advice from leading experts will be on offer at a free Sevenoaks dementia awareness evening on Wednesday, 24 February.

Hosted by Sevenoaks District Council in its Argyle Road offices, the event will cover some of the practical, legal and financial issues surrounding the care of people with dementia, with particular emphasis on relieving the pressure on families.

The evening will feature presentations from law firm Cripps, The Good Care Group and Atrium Independent Financial Advisers.

Solicitor Stephen Horscroft from Cripps will explain the benefits of Powers of Attorney and the role of the Court of Protection.

“It can be extremely daunting when a loved one receives a diagnosis of dementia and often people do not know where to turn for support,” he sad. “When we have run similar events in the past attendees have appreciated having a range of advisors in the same place to answer their questions and provide support.”

The Good Care Group’s Dr Penny Hibberd, a specialist dementia care nurse, and area director Elaine Ferris will share knowledge on understanding dementia, approaching difficult conversations and the support available to carers.

Gary Bignall from Atrium Independent Financial Advisers will outline the ways to fund care, releasing equity and accessing pensions and annuities.

There will be an open question and answer session available as well as limited 10-minute slots with the professionals.

The free dementia awareness evening takes place on Wednesday, 24 February from 6pm to 8.30pm at the Sevenoaks District Council offices in Argyle Road. Places are limited and anyone interested in attending should contact Lucy Steer at or on 01892 506208.
