John Lyon and Quainton Hall unite with support from Cripps Pemberton Greenish
Having educated the young people of Harrow since Victorian times, John Lyon a 144-year-old senior school and prep school Quainton Hall School will soon come together to offer an all-through education for children aged 2 – 18.
Cripps Pemberton Greenish supported John Lyon on this exciting project, which will see Quainton become part of John Lyon to form a unified school for 800+ children, with attached nursery.
This is a significant landmark in the history of both schools and has been communicated to parents as “the most important and significant change that either school has ever seen – creating an all-through co-educational institution that will offer a high-class education to children from Harrow and the surrounding areas”.
From September 2021, Quainton Hall and John Lyon will operate as a single school with each remaining on their existing sites.
Having enjoyed a close relationship with the John Lyon School (part of the Foundation which includes John Lyon’s Charity and Harrow School) for many years, Cripps Pemberton Greenish was well placed to advise the school on this strategic project.
Led by Julie Hughes, the team which included Andrew Millett (Clerk to the Governors), Oliver Copp, Laura Regan, Patrick Alexander and Elliot Fry, advised the John Lyon’s Board of Governors on all aspects of the transaction including, acquisition documentation, due diligence, governance and charity law and property related matters.
Commenting on the legal support that Cripps Pemberton Greenish provided, Miss Katherine Haynes, Head of John Lyon, said: “We have felt extremely well supported by our superb team of legal advisers. We greatly appreciate the hard work, expertise and insight Julie, Patrick and the team brought to this project. This has been a detailed process, with some interesting challenges, and we have been guided capably throughout.”
