Hannah Proctor - HZB

1 – Describe your role and area of expertise

Commercial dispute solicitor, specialising in contractual disputes, debt recovery and insolvency.

2 – What do you find most interesting about your work?

The variety of options available in any one scenario, there are many considerations when advising on a dispute, such as costs, commerciality, and time frame, as well as whether the law is on your side or not. This means that there are usually one or more options available depending on the client’s priorities, the merits of the action and the likely costs. What option is best for the client is likely to change throughout a matter, which keeps you on your toes!

3 – What inspired you to pursue a career in law?

It all started when I was a teenager and it became obvious I liked a debate. I decided to take Law A level and found the topic very interesting. I also enjoyed the challenge of having to get my head around particular decisions and looking at an argument from both sides. My reasons for pursuing the career have changed over time, from simply finding it interesting to recognising the impact good legal advice can have on an individual or business – it is important everyone has the ability to have their rights protected.

4 – How has your life changed since qualification and how did you find the transition from trainee to NQ?

Yes. Apart from the obvious additional admin (billing, time recording etc), it is important that as an NQ you identify what level of responsibility you are comfortable with and make sure you have the appropriate level of supervision. I enjoy the additional responsibility, although I found finding the balance the most challenging part of the transition.

5 – What is your favourite thing about working for Cripps Pemberton Greenish? What makes Cripps Pemberton Greenish, Cripps Pemberton Greenish?

How approachable and supportive my colleagues are.
