Extra-curricular responsibilities…

This week, the trainee solicitor blog team caught up with Mollie Ferguson to find out more about her time outside the office, representing junior lawyers across Kent.

“I am a second year trainee currently in the private client team, and I am also the President of Kent Junior Lawyers Division (“JLD”) and one of two Trainee Solicitor Reps (West Kent) for Kent Law Society.

Having other responsibilities on top of my “day-job” helps further develop time management skills, as well as event organisation and networking!

The Kent JLD is a forum for trainees, paralegals and junior lawyers up to 5 years qualified to network together, meeting likeminded individuals in a more informal setting. I was elected President in the elections held last summer, and 3 other Cripps Pemberton Greenish people are also on the committee. Cripps Pemberton Greenish staff are always encouraged to attend and participate in the events that the JLD put on, and there are nearly always Cripps Pemberton Greenish people on the committee!

As President, I am responsible for organising committee meetings, deciding JLD’s strategy for the year, and obtaining external sponsorship. I have a predominant role in organising events which we run throughout the year, and am the first point of call for new members and enquiries.

I am a co-opted committee member of the Tunbridge Wells and Tonbridge District Law Society, and also attend national Junior Lawyers Division meetings at the Law Society in London, acting as the voice of junior lawyers in Kent. I report back to the members with details of these meetings, as well as informing them of changes to the legal profession that may affect them.

As one of the Trainee Solicitor Reps (West Kent) for Kent Law Society, I work with the East Kent rep to liaise with trainee solicitors across Kent, organising events and lectures for them to attend and acting as their link to Kent Law Society by attending General Purposes Committee (GPC) meetings.

I really enjoy both my roles and the opportunities it affords me to network and get to know other young legal professionals in this area. If you are eligible to be a member and would like to be added to the mailing list, please contact me at mollie.ferguson@crippspg.co.uk.”
