About the scheme:
We offer a comprehensive two week scheme, from 2nd to 13th of March 2020. Placements are available in one of our three fee earning divisions; Corporate, Private Client or Real Estate. Our two week programme will give you a fantastic insight into what life is like as a Legal Secretary within a commercial law firm. You will be mentored by a Secretarial Team Leader throughout your time with us, and receive feedback at the end of the two weeks.
We have since recruited two of the successful candidates from the 2019 scheme and they have shared their thoughts with us about their experience of the scheme and life at Cripps Pemberton Greenish.
Lydia Tomsett – Legal Secretary – Real Estate
The work experience provided at Cripps Pemberton Greenish gave me a great insight into what was involved in the day to day life of a Legal Secretary. The timetable provided me with a chance to work in different teams within Private Client. I gained a better understanding of the different departments and found them all very interesting. The timetable also includes presentations explaining what else happens in the Firm and the importance of the different centralised teams. What appealed to me the most was that every day was different and every day I learnt something new – I was happy to always be busy. Everyone in the teams were friendly and happy to answer any of my questions. The feedback provided was also very helpful and constructive . Overall, the work experience made me excited to start my career as a Legal Secretary.
Now I am a Legal Secretary at the firm, I have noticed how much the work experience gave me a head start in understanding the role better and more confidence to apply. The main responsibilities in my day to day role includes diary management, deeds administration, answering various telephone calls, conflict checks, property searches, and finances. I really enjoy working with my team, and feel supported in my role One of the best parts of the role is seeing a task through from start to finish and knowing I completed this!!
Maisie Martin – Legal Secretary – Corporate
I attended the Legal Secretary work experience scheme in March 2019, where I joined the Corporate division for two weeks. It was a great opportunity to experience life as a Legal Secretary and what that role involves. I was given various tasks including, booking an external lunch for Partners, collating information for a team work event, attending meetings and helping the fee earners with day-to-day tasks. I would really recommend the scheme to anyone wishing to find out more about a Legal Secretary role and how a law firm operates. I have since accepted a Legal Secretary role in the Corporate division and I am really enjoying it four months on!
